Brrrrr…
Well, false winter has arrived here in South Carolina. We had our first hard freeze of the season earlier this week. For the most part, we should be just fine. Some of our potatoes look a little rough but we believe they’ll bounce back and be just fine. The cold and the wind hasn’t been fun. . .however, we are thankful for the change of the season. Part of farming is adjusting to the seasons and planning accordingly.
We did spend some time this weekend pulling more weeds and moving tarps around to accomplish more solarization (What is solarization? Read here.). We also planted some more cover crop that should be just fine with the warmer temperatures next week.
This has been a special week. Today is a special day. Jay celebrates his 18th birthday. We tried to have fun today while continuing to work and be productive. We’re certainly thankful for Jay and his role at the farm. Earlier this week, on Sunday, Jeremy celebrated a birthday. Without his leadership, time, talents, and finances - Growing JOY wouldn’t be what it is today.
In the midst of a cold week, weather wise, we’re filled with warmth and joy and the opportunity to celebrate ones we love on their special days.
Have a great, fall weekend!
