Thankfulness. . .
Today is Thanksgiving. It only seems natural to write about thankfulness. It’s the time of year that we stop - literally - on a day to celebrate thankfulness. It goes without saying that our posture should be one of thankfulness year round. After all, if you’re able to read this I can guarantee you that you’re blessed, have more than you need, and are able to help meet the needs of others where you are. Be thankful. Dwell on it. Thank God for it.
Here at the farm; we’re thankful. We had 65 students, 10 teachers, 8 parent volunteers and 10 other friends/family of the farm join us on Monday for a Day of Service with Springfield Middle in Fort Mill, SC. We were able to plant somewhere around 100 fruit trees, seed 4,000 heads of lettuce, harvest around 200 heads of lettuce, and teach the next generation about aquaponics and regenerative farming.
In addition to that exciting work, our construction crew has made slow progress on the 18 holes that are 38 inches wide and 78 inches deep. Chester dirt is no joke and it took many more days of work than anticipated. However, as of this writing the holes are completed and have passed inspection. We anticipate pouring concrete on Monday morning which will mean that our next greenhouse will have a form and will begin to take shape quickly (we hope!).
3 years ago we were operational but hadn’t harvested our first round of lettuce. 2 years ago we were navigating Covid and trying to pivot. 1 year ago we had just finished our new set of 48 grow beds in the back. What will we write about next year? Who knows? But I know we’ll still be thankful for the Lord’s provision for our little farm.
We’re thankful for you. We hope you enjoy your day with family and friends.
