Bare Necessities. . .

Yesterday, while I (Jamey) was working alongside one of our employees; he started singing the “Bare Necessities.” That catchy little tune has stuck in my head over the past day! I took some time to look up the lyrics to this familiar song from the Jungle Book.

The refrain, or chorus, says:

Look for the bare necessities,
the simple bare necessities;
forget about your worries and your strife.
I mean the bare necessities,
that's why a bear can rest at ease
with just the bare necessities of life.
With just the bare necessities of life!

This got me thinking. At the heart of what we’re trying to accomplish at the farm is a simple way of connecting back with the land. Everything we do and utilize at the farm is all natural. Outside we practice regenerative agriculture which focuses more on the quality and health of the soil than the plant itself. Our aquaponic system is more sustainable, healthier, and produces lettuce faster than traditional agriculture. It only requires koi fish, fish food, and lettuce seeds. The bare necessities.

As we focus on the bare necessities, however, anyone with farming experience will tell you that it’s not a walk in the park. Weather, wildlife, bad seeds, and a host of other issues can plaque a farmer. Yet, despite it all, we keep at it in an effort to teach individuals their worth, provide exceptional locally grown food, and spread JOY.

Have a great weekend! Enjoy this cool, June weather we’re experiencing!
